The Crowdies at The Bull…the Bull n Bush Hotel in Baulkham Hills, Sydney is our most regular Sydney gig in the last 4 years.

We play here about 2-3 times a year.
This night we had the amazing Alexie Pigot on Bass, Aiden Danser on Keys, with Alex Quayle on Drums and Ian Mason on guitar.

It was the end of summer, weather was humid and the good ole Bull beer garden was packed with people.
Though the bands play inside, so only the die hard music fans come in to watch.

Although for the beer garden stalwarts, they always catch a glimpse of whichever band is playing when they venture to the main bar.

By the end of the night some of them have convinced themselves to join the messy throng of dancers on the dance floor to shake their thing to some of the zany and upbeat Enz numbers at the end of our second set.

This night I arrived well early with my girlfriend to meet friends for dinner in the nice bistro which overlooks the main road.
We all had nice and huge meals, then I wandered into to meet the lads for soundcheck.

Tim the long time in house soundy always does a great job. He’s so easy to deal with, always cheerful and pro.
He pulls a great sound and tonight was no exception.

Its a great rough and ready pub gig this one, anything goes really, its not your typical conservative club audience, in fact it’s quite the polar opposite.
Punters were vocal and well into ‘party mode’ by the time we took the stage for our first set of Crowded House material at 10pm.

Because it a loose pub environment we can have fun playing random cover songs and even making up tunes on the spot for laughs which we did tonight, it always gets people laughing.

The dance floor was packed with some crazy dancing antics including a guy who did about 25 press ups at warp speed to impress anybody taking notice. So I asked if anyone else might have a party trick to top that.

One keen volunteer offered to do a backflip, so we anxiously agreed and got everybody’s attention, cleared a space amongst the throng and the guy took a few deep breaths and did a perfect backflip to rapturous applause and whoops from the dance floor clan.

That’s the main thing I remember abut this gig, during pack up the band were recalling, “how bout that guy, who did the mad backflip!”

Always a great gig at The Bull, never a dull moment.
