When Tim Pringle decided to form a tribute band, there was no one he wanted to pay homage to more than the Finn brothers.

Growing up in New Zealand, Pringle loved listening to Split Enz and Crowded House.

Now the Central Coast resident wants to pass that appreciation on.

“I grew up listening to the radio and  Crowded House and Split Enz were really popular,” Pringle said.

“Luckily for me I have a similar vocal register to Neil Finn and I have an affinity for their stuff.”

The members of the five-piece band are all seasoned musicians but have only been
together as The Crowdies Show for a short time.

Pringle, on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, is joined by drummer and singer Brian
Waters, bass player Darren Pedley, electric guitarist Mauro Bortolin and keyboardist Phil Tweed.

Pringle said he’d worked hard to put together the “right people” and audiences were reaping the benefits.

The Crowdies Show strutted its stuff in front of 6000 people on Australia Day at The Entrance and already has a string of bookings on the coast.

From the quirky Split Enz songs to the pop sounds of Crowded House, Pringle said getting people involved was key to the performances.

“It’s about reducing the gap between the audience and the act,” he said.

Performing hits such as ‘Weather With You’ and ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’, as well as Split
Enz classics like ‘I See Red’, there is plenty for the audience to sing along to.

Another aspect for the members of The Crowdies Show is being “100 per cent live”.

“Many tribute bands have sequences on backing tracks,” Pringle said. “But we are 100 per cent live so we can jam and extend songs.”

The Crowdies Show is playing at Mingara Recreation Club, Tumbi Umbi, on Sunday. The show starts at 8pm. Entry is free.

CROWDED WEEKEND LOCALS PLAY FINN BROTHERS’ HITS

MUSICIANS from the local Crowded House tribute act, The Crowdies Show, can’t think of a better way to celebrate Australia Day weekend than at home on the Central Coast.

The boys have two big shows planned at Mingara Recreation Club and Halekulani Bowling Club.

“Last Australia Day we headlined on the main stage at Cronulla Beach in Sydney.
It was a huge event on a massive stage with spectacular fireworks,” frontman Tim Pringle said.

“This year we are keeping it local and staying on the Central Coast and performing two shows.”

Although Pringle is originally from New Zealand, he still calls Australia home and will deliver a true Aussie show with everything from the quirky Split Enz songs
to the iconic pop songs of Crowded House.

“Neil Finn of Split Enz and Crowded House is also a Kiwi and history tells us that most great Aussie bands have at least one Kiwi in them,” Pringle said.

The group has a lot of fun playing tribute to the bands.

“The real Crowded House never take themselves too seriously so we can have fun and be playful on stage,” Pringle said.

Crowded Tribute

YOU’D be hard-pressed tying to find an Australian who hasn’t heard of Crowded   House. Over more than 20 years, Nell Finn, Nick Seymor, Paul Hester, Tim Finn, Mark Hart ard Matt Sherrod were responsible for some of the most Memorable  songs and live performances
in Australian music history

— not-least of which their iconic farewell
performance on the steps of the Sydney Opera House in 1996.

Now The Crowdies Show has encapsulated the essence of this much loved band with their 90-minute-plus tribute  along with a few Split Enz classics for good measure.

The songs of Crowded House and Split Enz were the soundtrack to the ‘80s and ‘90s for millions of people the world over, and now The Crowdies Show offers punters the chance to relive their formative years over dinner at Kahibah Bowling Cub.

Performing such iconic pop gems as
‘Weather With You’, ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’,
‘Something so Strong’, ‘Better be Home Soon’, along with the quirky rock of Split Enz with crowd pleasers like ‘I See Red’ and ‘Message to My Girl’.

The Crowdies Show delivers a performance that is both professional and with no backing tracks, combining killer tunes with high energy and spontaneity that is guaranteed to appeal not only to die-hard Crowded House and Split Enz fans, but music lovers everywhere.

The Crowdies Show incorporates tracks from the total Crowded House pantheon
—from their seminal debut self-titled album to 2007’s Time on Earth, all bases are covered.

FAN'S NEAT TRIBUTE

TIM Pringle grew up in New Zealand – the land where Neil and Tim Finn are treated like pop music gods.

While he listened to Split Enz and, later, Crowded House, it was a babysitter who turned Pringle, now of The Entrance, into the fan he still is today.

“I was first introduced as a child to Split Enz by a babysitter when watching the I Got You video clip who pointed out: ‘look the picture on the wall is alive’,” Pringle said.

“This video is etched in my mind.”

Pringle said he was proud to be the leader of The Crowdies, a tribute band which will come to Breakers Country Club at Wamberal at 7pm on Saturday.

“And it’s not just any tribute band, but a tribute to arguably two of NZ’s best pop bands in history.” he said.

“Luckily for me I have a similar vocal register to Neil Finn and I have an affinity for their stuff.”

The songs of Crowded House and Split Enz were the soundtrack to the ’80s and 90s for many Australians and for millions of people the world over.”

The members of the five piece band are all seasoned musicians and have been together as The Crowdies Show since 2009.

Pringle, on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, is joined by drummer Paul Novosel, bassist and vocalist Josh Manson, electric guitarist Mauro Bortolin and keyboardist Sam McNally.

“Sam has actually played and toured with Tim Finn which is a great touch for the guys in the band to be working with one of the great Oz legends,” Pringle said.

“We are 100 per cent live so we can jam and extend songs.”

Tim Pringle is also a wedding singer and recently won No.2 wedding ceremony singer in Australia and was in the top five of live wedding bands in Australia.

“I won the NSW category for ceremonies and was rated in the national awards,” he said.
