The Crowdies Show – The Church Bar Windsor.
Without a doubt this show was the most memorable gig we’ve played in a long long time.
We’ve been playing for 13 years with this project and this one was just beautiful in many ways.
The Church Bar in Windsor NSW is a well organised and fantastic venue.
Dave Eagan has been running his concept called the Classic Album show at the Church Bar for a few years now.
Its set up and run in a superbly professional manner. He emails database of regular locals who buy a ticket for a dinner & show on a Thursday night.
Its small intimate venue in an old converted Church, but the thing about an intimate ticketed show is that real fans of the band tend to show up and this means fantastic singalongs in true Crowded House style.
A small room of everybody singing along at volume beats playing to a much larger audience in a huge space especially at a free show where the vibe is much more casual.
This audience had paid so they had some skin in the game, they were there to have a great time.
AND they were silent during our talking and totally gave us their attention while we performed – in true show style, no pub style heckling.
It was 200% strong interest in our show and impeccable manners from the audience – we couldn’t believe it was an Australian audience haha.
Dave Eagan had briefed me on the concept of the show, lots of stories, song explanations and tales please.
So I researched a few song story histories and thought about what to say – it worked a gem, we cracked jokes, got em laughing singing and dancing!
There is a clip on our home page (Intimate Dinner show) of highlights from this gig.
Everything about the set up and the gig, the audience and staff was perfect.
We had the incredible keys player Dave Tavender playing with us – (for the first time) and we’d never rehearsed with him before. We knew he was such a high calibre player that he would learn the parts perfectly and boy he did – check him out on the clip!
The venue staff were so welcoming and kind, we were given delicious meals and drinks. The sound guy who regularly does these Church Bar gigs was a pleasure to deal with.
The guy in the band were so thrilled with this show they were asking me wow – how did you get this gig, how come we haven’t heard about this place?
This was a last show – still sold out – just before Covid-19 took hold and basically shut our industry down.
We hope to be back again in summer.
We were immediately rebooked although the venue has been sold now – fingers crossed we get to play a Thursday night Dinner Show at The Church Bar again!
